The Board of Directors represent the governing body of FSBA and meets four times annually to establish positions and provide direction on major issues that directly impact the Association’s activities. The meetings are held in conjunction with the Day in the Legislature, Annual Summer Conference, Board of Directors’ Leadership Development Training, and Annual Joint Conference.

The Board of Directors is composed of five Executive Officers (sometimes referred to as the Executive Committee), twenty-seven directors representing geographical districts in the state, and any active member of the Florida School Boards Association serving as an officer or on the Board of Directors of a national or regional collaboration of state school boards associations with membership paid by FSBA.

Directors from the geographical districts serve two-year staggered terms.

FSBA Executive Officers are elected annually by the general membership and include the President, President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, and the Immediate Past President. The FSBA Nominating Committee proposes a slate of officers for election held at the annual summer conference. For more information on the nominating process, please see the information posted  under “FSBA Nominating Committee” on the FSBA Leadership and Committees page.

The FSBA Chief Executive Officer serves as an ex-officio member of the Executive Officers.

Standing committees and various Ad Hoc committees, as determined by the FSBA President, Executive Officers, and by the Bylaws, assist the Board of Directors and Executive Officers in leading FSBA towards its strategic directions which include impacting legislation, developing effective board members, advocating for public education, and providing effective and efficicient operations within FSBA. Standing Committees include Legislative, Finance, Bylaws and Procedures, Board Development, Equity, and Past Presidents. School board members also serve as trustees on the Florida School Board Insurance Trust (FSBIT) and Directors for the Florida School Labor Relations Service (FSLRS).  All school board members are encouraged to serve on at least one committee and to become an active member of the FSBA leadership team.
