Florida’s Legislative Session officially kicked off on Tuesday, January 11. This is the time in which lawmakers from
both the Florida House and Senate come to Tallahassee for 60 days to file and pass legislation as well as fulfill their
constitutional requirement of passing a balanced budget. Legislative Session is scheduled to conclude on Friday,
March 11, 2022.
HERE you will find the legislative bill tracker supplied to us by our team at GrayRobinson. All of the bills we are
tracking are listed on the report in numerical order. A couple of bills to highlight:
- SB 1048 Student Assessments by Senator Diaz was heard in the Senate Education Committee (pg. 24).
Many questions were asked about progress monitoring, ensuring US DOE requirements are met, and how
new assessments will impact our students, families, and educators. HB 1193 is the House companion bill
which was filed by Rep. Plasencia and has not yet been heard in committee. - SB 802 School Safety by Senator Gruters was also heard in the Senate Education Committee (pg.19). This
would implement the most recent recommendations of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Safety Commission
including requiring certain law enforcement to be physically present for school safety drills as well as
requiring the Commissioner of Education to oversee and ensure compliance with requirements relating to
school safety and security. HB 1421 by Rep. Hawkins is the House companion and has not yet been heard
in committee.
