FSBA works to promote and protect the uniform, efficient, safe, secure, and high quality system of free public schools that is guaranteed by the Florida Constitution. Our efforts include tracking high profile education related cases and keeping our members informed of education related legal news and events around the country.

The Association retains legal counsel to represent FSBA with respect to its corporate and other business matters. In this capacity, FSBA’s legal counsel assists in the defense of lawsuits, institutes legal proceedings, and issues opinions. FSBA’s legal counsel may also serve as a representative for FSBA’s membership in lawsuits that have the potential to impact all school boards. This may include preparation and filing of amicus curiae (friends of the court) briefs.  FSBA’s current attorney of record is Leonard Dietzen of the Rumberger Kirk law firm.

In addition, the law firm of Sniffen & Spellman, P.A. provides, as a courtesy to FSBA, a monthly newsletter — Education Law Alert — that highlights education related legal activities throughout the country.
