Andrea Messina began as Executive Director on July 1, 2015. A former English teacher, Charlotte County School Board Member, and FSBA Professional Development Coordinator, she brings a multi-faceted perspective to her leadership role. Ms. Messina is responsible for all organization operations and works with the Board of Directors and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and outreach. She oversees the development of sufficient resources to make certain the financial health of the organization is maintained. Andrea is a proud University of Central Florida Alumna.
Leslie Dunlap, CPA
Director of Finance & Administration
Leslie Dunlap came on board the FSBA team as Comptroller in July of 2010. She is responsible for all financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting functions for the association. Her role also includes pension management, IT oversight, human resources, staff liaison to the Finance Committee and planning for the Annual Summer and Annual Joint Conferences. Leslie is a graduate of Florida State University and a Certified Public Accountant.
Danielle Thomas Ed.D.
Director of Advocacy & Legislative Services
Danielle Thomas joined the FSBA team in September of 2021 as Director of Advocacy & Legislative Services. She brings a wealth of information in the areas of education policy and curriculum development from her time with Volusia County Schools and Florida Parent Teacher Association (FLPTA). She oversees legislative affairs and advocacy support. Danielle earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary/Special Education at Providence College. She earned a masters in Literacy Education from Walden University as well as a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida. She also holds multiple teaching certifications in Florida. Danielle is an Executive Committee Member of FLPTA and is currently completing a graduate certificate in non-profit management at UCF.
Director of Leadership Services
Tina Pinkoson joined the FSBA staff in July of 2015 as the Coordinator of Professional Development, and in conjunction with the FSBA Strategic Plan 2020, her title was changed to Director of Leadership Services in 2016. Her experience as a teacher, Alachua County School Board member, and FSBA Facilitator gives her a broad perspective of the professional development needs of Florida’s School Board members. She oversees all professional development programs including required ethics training, Certified Board Member, Master Board, and Mentor programs as well as the New School Board Member and Chairmanship Academies. Tina is a graduate of the University of Florida.
Member Services Specialist
Patricia Peterson, Member Services Specialist, has been an FSBA staff member for 28 years. Prior to FSBA, Patricia was employed with the Florida Department of Education as a Secretary Specialist. Patricia’s journey with FSBA started at the front desk as a receptionist and moved through several different positions and departments. Prior to her new role, she served as the Board Development Department Administrative Assistant. In addition to
planning the Board of Directors’ Development Training and Meeting, Patricia also serves as a direct liaison to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Executive Officers, NSBA and the Nominating Committee. Patricia holds her bachelor’s degree from Flagler College, Tallahassee and a master’s degree from Florida A&M University.
Member Services Associate
Carolyn Sanders serves as Member Services Associate for the association and assists departments as needed. Her key responsibilities include maintaining the member database, supporting members in their pursuit of professional development distinctions, assisting the accounting department and FEN, and planning the Day in the Legislature Advocacy Conference. Carolyn is the first voice you hear when you call FSBA.
Member Engagement Coordinator
Amie Williamson joined the FSBA team in September of 2021 as Member Engagement Coordinator. She brings a wealth of communications and engagement experience, including serving as the CEO of an independent marketing and design firm. She oversees all communications, graphic design, social media management, and conference planning. Amie earned her undergraduate degree in English from Florida State University.

Director of Risk Management and Insurance,
Florida School Boards Insurance Trust (FSBIT)
David Stephens has been working with Florida School Boards Insurance Trust for the past 7 years as a Member District Risk Manager and, since 2013, as the Executive Director of Risk Management. David has a Bachelor of Science degree from University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida in Tampa. David has 25 years of school system experience in Florida – 17 of those years in administration. He has served as an assistant principal, principal and at multiple district administrative positions. Prior to pursuing teaching as a career, David worked for IBM and Rockwell International.
