We have completed Week 3 and several significant pieces of legislation have already passed out of both chambers. In addition, both the House and Senate have released their initial budgets which will be presented by each Appropriations Committees this week. The House is proposing significant changes to the FEFP while the Senate’s proposal keeps the calculation of the FEFP consistent with previous calculations. We encourage you to reach out to your CFOs to discuss the proposals especially the proposed House changes and how these proposals affect your district. Remember there is still a long way to go in the budget process and things will change.

- HB 1/SB 202 – HB 1 Education passed out of the Senate chamber on Thursday along party lines. The funding for HB 1 is still being worked out as this will be part of the budget process.
- HB 733 Middle School & High School Start Times was heard in and passed out of its last committee stop in the House. This bill will would require middle schools to start no earlier than 8 am and high schools to start no earlier than 8:30 am. It has an implementation date of July 1, 2026. The companion bill SB 1112 will be heard in its first committee Senate Prek-12 Education beginning at 11:30 am today.
- SB 240 Education will be heard in its 2nd committee this week. This bill by Sen. Hutson expands Workforce & CTE opportunities for our students and aligns with our platform.
