This Video Update features Dr. Wayne Blanton providing an overview of the likely education budget and discussing several key bills of interest, including:
- SB 864 (Similar to HB 921) regarding adoption of instructional materials. FSBA opposes this bill.
- HB 7083 (Similar to SB 1528) relating to charter schools. FSBA opposes this bill.
- SB 1620 (Similar to FTSC-2) relating to the Corporate Tax Credit Scholarship Program. FSBA opposes this bill, but we are hopeful that, at a minimum, the Legislature will ensure that appropriate accountability measures will be put in place, as suggested by Senate President Don Gaetz.
- SB 1368 (Similar to HB 1187) relating to the transition timeline for Florida’s new assessment and accountability system. FSBA supports this bill.
Dr. Blanton encourages you to contact your legislators to express your views on these bills. To assist you in contacting your legislators, you may use our School District Legislative Delegation List (which includes email links for each legislator) available in our 2014 Legislative Session Toolkit at https://fsba.org/services/
In this video, Dr. Blanton also encourages your attendance at our Day in the Legislature Conference scheduled for March 19-20 in Tallahassee. You may access additional information about the conference on the FSBA website at https://fsba.org/fsba-events/
