Committee weeks have officially come to an end and things are very busy in Tallahassee. Below you will find some helpful resources for you to use to follow the legislative process as we move into legislative session next week. In addition, we have provided a few bills below to highlight which have been filed and, in some cases, are already moving through the process. A complete list of bills we are tracking is attached.
Remember that to follow bills as well as the see the calendar of committee meetings and which bills are being heard, use the websites for the Florida House and the Florida Senate. You can watch committee meetings live on the Florida Channel. You can also watch previously held committee meetings using the Florida Channel Video Library.
Bills to watch so far include (updated list): HB 1 School Choice/SB 202 K-12 Education; HB 379 Student Use of Social Media/SB 52 Required Instruction in Public Schools; HB 455 Career Themed Courses; SB 240 Education; HB 301/SB 212 Emergency Response Mapping Data, HB 1069 Education.
Bill that are specific to school board members include (updated list): HB 31/SB 94 Partisan Elections for Members of District School Boards; HB 477 Term Limits for School Board Members/SB 1110 Term Limits; HB 411/SB 444 District School Board Elections, HB 729 Local Officials Employment Contracts/SB 696 Local Officials.
Legislative Session begins next Tuesday, March 7. It is always a nice gesture to wish your legislators well as they begin session (call, text, email, flowers). Legislative Updates will be sent out weekly once session begins.
