Today marks the first day of Florida’s 2021 Legislative Session. Legislators have arrived in Tallahassee for 60 (or possibly more) days of policy making and budget balancing. Several bills were filed over the weekend that contain language that could potentially affect school districts and school boards. FSBA will provide an updated bill tracking list this week and additional posts to highlight some newly filed bills, but for now, let’s go over some highlights of the Day 1 schedule. - 9:30 a.m. The Senate will convene for Session
- 10:00 a.m. The House will convene for Session
- 11:00 a.m. Joint Session will convene (due to COVID-19 protocols, the Senate will remain in its Chamber for a live streaming of Joint Session)
- 1:00 p.m. House K12 Appropriations will meet to review appropriations projects and HB 3 Home Book Deliver for Elementary Students (Trabulsy)
- 1:00 p.m. President Simpson will hold a post-session media availability
- 1:30 p.m. Senate Commerce & Tourism will meet. Included on the agenda is HB 72 Civil Liability Damages Relating to Covid-19 (Brandes)
- 1:30 p.m. Senate Judiciary will meet to hear several bills, including SB 582 Parental Rights (Rodrigues)
- 3:15 p.m. House Speaker Sprowls will hold a post-session media availability
- 4:00 p.m. House Health & Human Services will hear HB 241 Parents’ Bill of Rights (Grall)
- 4:00 p.m. Senate Education will meet to hear several bills, including SB 886 COVID-19 Impact on School Accountability
