The message on the Timber Creek High School website provided a gentle warning to the class of 2014: “The senior year is filled with many opportunities to make memories,” it read, “but unfortunately, these opportunities can become expensive.”
With graduation ceremonies now looming, 12th-graders and their parents know all too well that senior year can be a time for planning the future, celebrating past successes — and whipping out the wallet.
With homecoming and prom; college applications and entrance exams; graduation parties; fees for cap, gown and diploma; and extensive memorabilia offers — from yearbooks to senior portraits to T-shirts — the opportunity to spend seems to stretch unending from August to May.
