TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) dedicated its office building Friday, February 27, 2015, naming it the Dr. Wayne Blanton Center for School Board Leadership.
FSBA chose to dedicate the building to commemorate Dr. Blanton’s retirement and to illustrate the Association’s gratitude for his 40 years of exemplary service to the Association.
“Dr. Blanton is respected throughout Florida, not only by the superintendents of Florida, but by all who know him and have had the opportunity to work with him,” said Florida Sen. Bill Montford (D-SD 3), who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents.
“He is a true servant leader committed to educational excellence and I am glad to call him a friend. I congratulate him on his retirement and wish him good health and happiness,” added Sen. Montford.
“With Dr. Blanton’s retirement, FSBA must bid farewell to an exceptional leader,” said FSBA President Patty Hightower, a member of the Escambia County School Board. “We wish him every happiness as he begins this next chapter of his life.”
Dr. Blanton began his career at FSBA in 1975, initially serving as the Association’s Assistant Director and subsequently rising to the position of Executive Director in 1985. In 1980, Dr. Blanton was instrumental in securing the FSBA office building – located at 203 S. Monroe St. in Tallahassee – that now bears his name.
“During my 40 years with the Florida School Boards Association, I have established many personnel and professional relationships that I will always treasure,” said Dr. Blanton. “It has been my honor and privilege to represent the most dedicated public servants in Florida.”
Dr Blanton received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University, his Masters degree from Florida A&M University, and his Ph.D. from Florida State University.
FSBA is a nonprofit and non-partisan corporation representing all school board members in Florida. FSBA has been the collective voice for Florida school districts since 1930.
