Two Florida legislators have been selected as The Florida School Boards Association’s Legislators of the Year for 2024. The association is set to honor Representative Alex Rizo (R-112) and Senator Shevrin Jones (D-34).

Their commitment to our students and families demonstrates that when we work together, Florida’s students thrive. We are grateful for their leadership on these important educational issues.” said Dr. Colleen Conklin, Flagler County School Board Member and FSBA Legislative Committee Chair.
Collaborating with legislators to make a positive difference for public schools is one of FSBA’s annual priorities. The leadership of Senator Jones and Representative Rizo manifests itself in very tangible and impactful ways in school districts across the state. We look forward to continuing to work with them for our students.” said Chief Executive Officer, Andrea Messina.
The awards will be officially presented at the association’s Annual Summer Conference in Tampa on June 5-7, at an upcoming school board meeting in the recipient’s district, or at an event selected by the recipient.
Senator Shevrin “Shev” Jones (D-34) is being recognized for his tireless support of public education and specifically his focus on student safety and mental health, ensuring our students have access to the resources and supports they need to meet their individual needs allowing them to be successful.
Representative Alex Rizo (R-112) is being honored for being a champion for the deregulation of public schools, specifically providing greater instructional flexibility, reducing administrative reporting, and providing greater capital flexibility
