At the end of the day Friday, Florida students will have completed the 2016 state testing season.
“We hold our breath through the entire situation,” education commissioner Pam Stewart told the State Board of Education. But “this year’s test administration has been very successful.”
Last spring, the Florida Standards Assessments and other state exams were marred by computer problems that prevented some students from accessing their tests and others from completing their work. The issues ranged from vendor error to an outside denial of service attack.
This year, no such widespread difficulties were reported. The main concerns this year centered on the issues of opting out, which Florida does not condone or recognize, and third-grade retention rules, which were modified from a year earlier. The third grade results were released Thursday.
Students took more than 3 million computer based assessments and more than 650,000 with paper-and-pencil.
