Florida House Speaker Steve Crisafulli is calling on lawmakers to overhaul the Florida Retirement System this year, something many observers see as an uphill battle because of continuing opposition in the Senate.
Crisafulli on Tuesday laid out his agenda for the 2015 legislative session, including cutting hundreds of millions in taxes, improving the education system, protecting the state’s water supply, helping people with disabilities and promoting the adoption of children in foster care.
The five-point work plan, a joint set of priorities with Senate President Andy Gardiner, doesn’t include major changes to the retirement system, a top priority of presiding officers in the House and Senate last year. But Crisafulli, during his remarks on the opening day of the 2015 session, said the House will move forward with proposals to overhaul FRS.
