Happy President’s Day! While it is a quiet day in the Legislature today, week 6 was another busy one. We continue to wait for the start of budget conferencing as each chamber continues to work through their policy priorities. Our team at GrayRobinson is once again providing us with our bill tracker. All of the bills we are tracking are listed on the report in numerical order. Bills that align to our platform are highlighted in yellow. A few of the bills to highlight:
- SB 1356 School Safety by Sen. Calatayud was heard in its last committee stop and passed unanimously. HB 1473 by Rep. Trabulsy was also heard in its last committee stop this week with significant changes being made to the bill which moved it closer to the Senate version and eliminated the punitive measures seen in the previous versions of the bill. Both bills are now ready for their respective chamber floors.
- HB 569 Suits Against the Government was on the agenda for its last committee stop with a proposed committee substitute filed and scheduled to be taken up. However, the bill was temporarily postponed in committee. SB 472 by Sen. Brodeur is waiting to be put on the agenda for its second committee stop.
- SB 996 Education by Sen. Burgess was heard in its last committee of reference and saw additional changes made including making sample digital student editions of instructional materials available for teacher prep programs and allowing for the issuance of classical education teaching certificates. While there was much discussion about the addition of the classical education teaching certificates, the bill passed out of committee and heads to the chamber floor.
