We are coming up on the halfway point of the legislative session and this week each chamber will pass their respective budgets off of their chamber floor. It will still be several weeks before we anticipate budget conferencing starting and will let you know as soon as that is noticed.
Our team at GrayRobinson is once again providing us with our bill tracker. All of the bills we are tracking are listed on the report in numerical order. Bills that align to our platform are highlighted in yellow. A few of the bills to highlight:
- Rep Tomkow’s HB 1403 School Choice was passed off of the House floor with all but 1 member voting yes. The identical bill in the Senate, SB 7048 pass out of Senate PreK-12 Education committee. It has one more committee stop before going to the Senate floor.
- SB 734 Government Accountability by Sen. Ingoglia was heard and passed out of its first committee. This bill makes changes to the requirements of lobbyist at the local level. It also limits school boards ability to extend the contracts of superintendents and school board attorneys to more than 8 months out from a general election unless the vote is unanimous. HB 735 by Rep. Andrade is identical and also has passed out of its first committee.
- HB 569 Suits against the Government by Rep. McFarland is this year’s sovereign immunity bill. This year’s version increases limits to $400,000/$600,000 but also allows for a settlement outside those limits. This bill has passed its first committee stops. SB 472 by Sen. Brodeur has also passed its first committee stop as well.
