Students love him for his charisma and open-mindedness. Teachers say he’s a dedicated mentor.
David Samore, who leads Okeeheelee Middle in Greenacres, now has another accolade: Florida’s Principal of the Year.
The Palm Beach County school district announced Thursday that Samore was selected as the top principal for middle and high schools by the Florida Association of Secondary School Principals. He will compete nationally for the title of best principal in the country.
“I’ve been lucky,” said Samore, 60. “I’ve been granted leeway and latitude. I know what works and what doesn’t to get kids to care about school.”
As the principal at Okeeheelee Middle for the last 15 years, Samore has propelled the school to the front lines of innovation.
