BARTOW | For the first time this year, school districts across Florida will get state funding to help increase the use of technology in schools.
The Polk County School Board approved a plan Tuesday for how the district would spend nearly $1 million it will receive.
The Digital Classroom Plan includes a budget for wireless Internet at six schools; industry certification exams; tablets for instructional coaches to model; 20 tablets at three non-Title I schools; carts of laptops for seven high-need elementary schools; and headphones for online tests.
“We know we’ve got to tighten up and beef up our infrastructure,” said Tina Barrios, assistant superintendent of information systems and technology.
