TALLAHASSEE — Any other day at the Capitol, a special redistricting session crashing and burning would be the dominate development in state government, but Thursday’s conclusion to a three-year battle for Senate president overshadowed what was yet another tough day for legislative leaders.
Shortly before the Senate voted on a proposed redraw of the its districts, Sen. Joe Negron’s camp announced he had won the race against fellow Republican Sen. Jack Latvala for the Senate presidency term that begins in 2017.
The fight between Negron and Latvala had split the chamber, as Republican members picked sides in the long running feud that at times dominated Senate business.
