TALLAHASSEE — A Senate panel Thursday approved a measure aimed at improving and expanding the Early Steps program, which serves infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities and delays.
The Senate Children, Families and Elder Affairs Committee backed the bill, part of a series of efforts by Senate President Andy Gardiner to help people with what he calls “unique abilities.”
“The Early Steps program and the early intervention services it provides are critical to establishing Florida’s complete cradle to career pathway to economic independence for people with unique abilities,” the Orlando Republican said in a statement. “The key policy improvements in this legislation will make certain effective services are available for children in need at a time when it is going to make the biggest difference in their lives.”
