This week’s legislative tracking shows relatively minimal movement on K-12 education bills, with no significant actions taken since the last update. However, board members should monitor several bills that could directly impact district operations:
- HB 0023/Educator Certifications and Training (Daley), which would require mass casualty incident training for all educators and is currently in the Education Administration Subcommittee;
- SB 0072/Individual Education Plans (Harrell), which would impose stricter timelines for IEP evaluations and require individualized orientations for ESE parents; and
- HB 0027/Term Limits for District School Boards (Holcomb), a proposed constitutional amendment that would establish term limits for school board members.
These bills bear watching as they progress through session. We will continue monitoring and sending these bill reports throughout committee weeks and session. The next committee week begins next week, November 3-7.
