ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) – Statistics show that charter schools in Florida fail at a greater rate than traditional public schools, but they also show that charter schools earn more “A” grades than traditional public schools.
FOX 35 started examining the statistics after Acclaim Academy in Orange County shut down in May, without finishing out the school year. The charter school failed before completing its first school year.
Education advocate Kathleen Oropeza said there’s a lesson to be learned from what happened at Acclaim Academy.
“It’s buyer beware,” said Oropeza, a co-founder of FundEducationNow.org. “If you’re going to make a decision to go to a charter school, you need to know what you’re getting.”
