Trump Wins Florida, But Other States Still Unclear
Florida voters went for President Donald Trump in Tuesday’s presidential election, giving him the state’s electoral votes over Joe Biden, though the overall national race remained undecided. In Senate District 1 in the western Panhandle, Republican Sen. Doug Broxson easily defeated Democratic challenger Karen Butler. “Hopefully we can have a majority in the Senate, and we go back and continue to move this economy forward during this pandemic and deal with some of the issues that we had with the budget,” Broxson told the Pensacola News Journal. Republican Jennifer Bradley easily won the seat being vacated by her husband Sen. Rob Bradley, who is term-limited. Bradley got about 75% of the vote in beating Democrat Stacey Peters. Peters was chosen by the Democratic Party to replace candidate Melina Rayna Svanhild Farley-Barratt, who died last month.

Republican Danny Burgess easily defeated Democrat Kathy Lewis for the open Florida Senate District 20 seat. Burgess got 55% of the vote to 45% for Lewis. District 20 includes northeastern Hillsborough County, southeastern Pasco County and a small part of northwestern Polk County. This was a special election for the seat vacated by Sen. Republican Jim Boyd defeated Democrat Anthony “Tony” Eldon in the race to fill outgoing Senate President Bill Galvano’s seat. Galvano, in the seat since 2012, was term-limited.
