In other important news, the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) Style & Drafting Committee worked last week to amend and combine several of the 24 proposed revisions to the Florida Constitution. Combining some proposals has reduced the total number of proposals from 24 to 12 — Six of the 12 proposals combine the content of 2 or more proposals and the others contain the content of only one proposal. The 12 new proposals have been renumbered as Proposals 6001 through 6012 and will be available for final consideration by the full Commission during the week of April 16-20, 2018. At this stage, 22 votes from the 37-member commission are needed to amend any proposal and/or to approve a proposal for placement on the November General Election ballot.
While there are others that are of interest, there are now only two proposals of particular concern to school districts: Proposal 6003 relating to civic literacy, school board term limits, and the creation of a state charter school authorizer (combines the content of proposals 10, 43, and 71) and Proposal 6008 relating to Innovation School Districts (contains ONLY the content of Proposal 93).
