FSBA 2020 Platform Development
The FSBA PROPOSED 2020 Legislative and Federal Platforms are available HERE along with related information. Please be sure to review these PROPOSED Platforms and share any comments or concerns you may have with your district’s representative on the FSBA Legislative Committee. There will also be an online Q&A session on Friday, August 30 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. when FSBA members and others may log-in/call-in to ask questions about the PROPOSED Platforms. The FSBA Legislative Committee will meet on Thursday, September 12 for final debate and adoption of the FSBA 2020 Legislative and Federal Platforms. FDOE Legislative Budget Request
The State Board of Education met today in Broward County. The meeting agenda — which includes links to reports and information discussed today — is available HERE. Of particular interest, the Board approved their annual Legislative Budget Request (LBR) for 2020-2021. To access their budget overview, click HERE. In other business, the State Board approved updates to their strategic plan, approved new rules relating to reporting of offenses and to substance use and abuse education. Links to the new rule language are available on the meeting agenda
FSBA Federal Issues & Advocacy Conference
The FSBA Federal Issues & Advocacy (FIA) Conference is scheduled for September 24-25, 2019. This conference serves to enhance FSBA’s visibility and effectiveness in advocating on federal education issues before Congress, the White House, and the U.S. Department of Education. The conference spans about 36 hours, not including travel time, and is limited to 15 participants. Advocacy Tools
FSBA’s Advocacy Tools page provides a variety of advocacy tips, reports, and fast fact sheets that you may find useful in your public, legislative, and federal advocacy. The latest Phi Delta Kappa Poll that annually measure public opinions on public education was added recently — click HERE to access it directly. We also recommend that you visit to our Resource Room for reports and issue briefs on a variety of topics. Both the Advocacy Tools page and our Resource Room are updated regularly so please be sure to check back often for new information.
FDOE Chart of New District Policies, Activities, and Reporting Requirements
Earlier this month, the FDOE released a very useful chart that lists the actions school districts should take as a result of legislation enacted in the 2019 Legislative Session. The chart includes district polices that should be created or revised, new or revised reporting requirements, new or revised public information requirements, and more.
